Only 14 Slovak Districts Had Above-Average Salaries in 2025

In 2025, the gap in wages between Slovakia’s individual districts remained substantial. The highest average salaries were recorded in the capital, while one of the country’s southern districts came in at the bottom of the ranking.

According to the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, the average monthly salary nationwide reached €1,864 last year. This represented an annual increase of €115, or 6.6%.

However, most districts remained below the national average. In 65 of Slovakia’s 79 districts, companies and organizations paid their employees less than the countrywide average.

The highest average salary was recorded in Bratislava I, where employees earned €2,455 per month on average. This was almost €600 more than the national figure. The lowest average income was recorded in Veľký Krtíš, at just €1,294 per month. The gap between Veľký Krtíš and Bratislava I therefore reached €1,161.

The disparity is particularly pronounced in several districts in southern and eastern Slovakia. In 19 districts, the average monthly salary in 2025 was below €1,500.

At the same time, the overall amount paid to employees in wages and compensation increased significantly. In 2025, the total reached €36.7 billion, up 7%, or approximately €2.4 billion, compared with the previous year.

Thus, despite overall wage growth, significant differences between parts of Slovakia remain. Where a person works continues to have a major impact on their income.
