Slovakia to Increase Minimum Meal Voucher Value for the First Time in a Year

The minimum value of meal vouchers (gastrolístky) in Slovakia will increase before the end of 2026.

The government is adjusting meal allowance rates after the average cost of food in Slovakia rose by more than 5% since the previous increase. The rates were last raised in December 2025, a year ago.

From December, the minimum value of a meal voucher will rise to €7.35, up from the current €6.98. Employers must cover at least 55% of its value, subject to a statutory maximum. As a result, the maximum employer contribution will increase from €5.12 to €5.39 per working day. For a voucher at the minimum value, the employer’s contribution will rise from €3.84 to €4.05, with the employee paying the remainder.

The same minimum and maximum rates will apply to cash meal allowances, which employers may provide instead of meal vouchers or organised meals. An additional contribution from a company’s social fund can increase the total support without a set limit.

The changes will also affect employees whose employers provide hot meals: the maximum employer contribution per meal will likewise rise to €5.39.

Meal allowances for business trips will also increase by 5.3%. For trips lasting between five and 12 hours, the allowance will rise from €9.30 to €9.80; for trips lasting between 12 and 18 hours, from €13.80 to €14.60; and for trips lasting more than 18 hours, from €20.60 to €21.70.
