Wizz Air will launch flights between Prague and Poprad, Patrik Františka, director of Poprad-Tatry Airport, announced at a press conference in the Czech capital.
The route will begin operating on 25 October, with flights in both directions three times a week, on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The journey from the Czech capital to the High Tatras will take approximately one hour.
During the Christmas and New Year holiday period, the airline plans to add a fourth weekly flight to meet increased demand.
The resumption of air services has been supported, among other factors, by an increase in the number of Czech tourists who visited the Tatras over the summer. According to Františka, negotiations with the airline lasted around a year and a half. Regional tourism organisations representing Liptov and the High Tatras also took part in arranging the service.
