A new Migration Police office in Bratislava was officially opened on Monday, 15 June. However, it has already been operating in practice since 18 May.
The office is located in the Nové Mesto district in the capital, at Račianska ulica 62. Its opening was linked to the need to vacate the previous premises on Regrútska Street, where a hospital is planned to be built. The new location is expected not only to improve working conditions for staff but also to significantly enhance the quality of services for foreigners living and working in the capital.
The branch has 14 service counters, as well as an updated online appointment booking system, which is intended to reduce queues and eliminate the resale of available appointment slots, a practice that had previously caused significant problems.
According to Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok, more than 4,300 applications were processed during the office’s preliminary operation period. He noted that the workload of the Migration Police has increased sharply in recent years — since 2026, the number of residence permit applications has tripled. An additional burden on the authority comes from processing applications for temporary protection, which exceeded 52,000 between 2022 and 2025.
