Irish low-cost airline Ryanair has announced changes to its baggage drop-off rules at all airports where it operates.
From 10 November 2026, Ryanair will close its baggage drop-off desks 60 minutes before scheduled departure, instead of the current 40 minutes. The change applies only to passengers checking in baggage. Those travelling with hand luggage only and completing check-in online will still be able to proceed directly to security screening after arriving at the airport.
The airline says the change is intended to give passengers more time to clear security screening and passport control, particularly during busy periods at airports.
“This small change will give the 20% of Ryanair passengers who check in bags more time to clear queues at security and passport control, and to reach their boarding gate before boarding begins,” said Ryanair’s Chief Marketing Officer, Dara Brady.
According to the company, the new rule should also reduce the number of passengers who miss their flights because of delays at airport security and passport checks.
Since 2025, Ryanair has been expanding its presence at Bratislava’s M. R. Štefánik Airport. In its 2026/27 winter schedule, the airline is offering 24 regular routes from the Slovak capital — a record number for Ryanair at the airport during the winter season. In addition to Bratislava, Ryanair also operates scheduled flights from Košice.
